Ovarian cancer originates in the ovaries and includes several subtypes:

  • Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: The most common type, which begins in the layer of cells that cover the ovaries.
  • Germ Cell Tumor: A rare type of ovarian cancer that originates in the egg-producing cells.
  • Stromal Tumor: A rare type of ovarian cancer that begins in the connective tissue cells that hold the ovary together and produce the female hormones.
  • Small Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary: A very rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
