Skin cancer is categorized based on the type of skin cells affected:

  • Melanoma: A cancer that begins in the melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment.
  • Basal Cell Carcinoma: The most common form of skin cancer that arises from basal cells in the epidermis.
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A common skin cancer that begins in squamous cells.
  • Merkel Cell Carcinoma: A rare but aggressive form of skin cancer that begins in hormone-producing cells.
  • Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma: A rare form of skin cancer that starts in the T-cells of the skin.
